ABSTRACT
Three successive regional assembly elections were dominated by then parliamentary
parties. The 1998 election was characterized by the increasing bi-polarity of the
party system. After this election, Regional coalitions were formed, mainly within
those blocks. The 2002 election was won by the post-communist left but the two
populist parties had good ratings. The 2006 regional election divided regional
political scene into three groups. The coalition formed in the regions reflected
the cabinet coalition.
