ABSTRACT
The article attempts to analyze Welsh party system from the point of view of
existing typologies. Its institutionalization began with the establishment of the
National Assembly of Wales and the Welsh government in 1997. The elections to
the Welsh parliament took place so far four times in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011.
The origins of the Welsh party system could be found in the elections to the House
of Commons and therefore in many aspects it resembles the British party system
with the dominant role of the Labour Party and the Conservative Party. On the
other hand it has its own characteristics.
