ABSTRACT
Public administration reform in 1998 reduced the number of voivodships from
49 to 16. As a result Ostrołęka lost its status of voivod city and was incorporated
into mazowieckie voivodship.
Analysis of local government legislative activity shows that 11 borough councils
produced 1084 resolutions altogether. As a consequence a number of control
resolutions is small too. Only in 12 cases voivod stated that the council resolution
was invalid.
Analysis of available data showed a certain tendency. In boroughs dominated by
rightist parties (with exception of: Kadzidło, Czarnia, Łyse and Rzekuń) or by social
election committees of such orientation, voivod executed his control competencies.
The smallest number of control resolutions was present in boroughs dominated
by representatives of Polish People’s Party and Democratic Left Alliance.
