ABSTRACT
The election silence is a special time provided by law during which any form
of electioneering, aiming to promote a particular candidate, a list of candidates
or electoral committees is prohibited. The purpose of election silence is to give
voters a peaceful, free from political agitation, conditions to consider and make
final decision on elections. Due to the numerous examples of violations of election
silence on various websites, there appeared many doubts as to the guarantee of the
silence on the internet. The aim of this article is to answer the question about the legitimacy of the election silence on the internet. The examples of violations of
election silence are taken from the 2011 parliamentary elections in Poland.
